The girls have been independent on weekend mornings for a couple of years now. Both of their clocks turn a green colour when they're allowed to get up (7 am). Despite the fact we tell them it's not necessary to ask, they sneak into our room and say "Mommy, my clock is green. Can I watch TV?" My response is always "Yes, and please feed the cats."
Despite all the fancy computer-generated modern cartoons on Treehouse and Disney, they generally prefer to watch Teletoon Retro, which has all the shows that John and I watched as kids. Inspector Gadget is their favourite, along with Bugs Bunny and Friends and Smurfs. But, unlike Treehouse and Disney, Teletoon Retro has commercials. Initially, they were quite upset that I couldn't fast forward through them and they had to have patience and wait for their show to continue. But, now they enjoy watching the commercials and guessing what product is being sold. It's certainly enjoyable to look at the commercials from their point of view and realize how ridiculous most of them actually are. :)

Just like we used to do -- so comfy and cozy!
Cute, all snuggled up! Interesting to see their thoughts on the commercials. When we watch the evening news now we mute them and have a conversation instead.
