Quote of the Day

Nothing like a conversation with a 5 year old to put things into perspective.

Meredith: Mom, everyone's scared of something, right?
Me: Yep.
Meredith: What are you scared of?
Me: Moths.
Meredith: What are those?
Me: They're like butterflies, only they're ugly. And they fly around your face at night.
Meredith: What do they do? Do they bite your eyes?
Me: No...
Meredith: Do they make you ugly?
Me: No.
Meredith: Do they sting you? Or make you itch?
Me: Well, no... (feeling sillier by the minute)
Meredith: Oh. So what do they do?
Me: Uh...they don't really do anything bad. I just don't like them on principle. They're brown and ugly and they fly around unpredictably (grasping at straws now for a good reason not to like them).
Meredith: Oh. (now looking at me like I'm a little crazy)
Me: (slightly embarrassed and looking for a change of subject) Well, it's time for bed!

Sure gives perspective to phobias! Nothing to fear but the fear itself.
